This video was created with my eighth grade student teacher's aides for one of my Master's classes. It will also be used during the first week of school with kindergarten through fifth grade students. As you can tell, I allowed them some freedom with interpretation and humor. We had a lot of fun with this and I hope you enjoy it!

The Beginnings of the Hatch
Over Spring Break, two of our chicks hatched! Mrs. Shields checked on them everyday and on Thursday, April 2, saw some action happening with the tiny egg in the middle:

3rd & 4th Grade Mother-Daughter Movie Night

I was not planning on my next evening event to be for girls . . . . but after watching the new American Girl movie, “Chrissa Stands Strong,” I knew I had to share it with KCS moms and daughters. The movie tells the story of how one girl who deals with a bully effectively makes a difference in her fourth grade class.
Thursday, February 26, all 3rd – 4th grade girls and their moms are invited to view this movie in the Lighthouse (Middle School Ministries room upstairs). The event will start at 6:00 p.m. with check-in and will end at 8:30 p.m. We will view the movie and then break into discussion groups and end the night with the girls making posters about preventing bullying.
Although this is a free event, you must register you and your daughter by completing the survey below by Monday, February 23. Bring your own movie snack and a pillow! All girls must be accompanied by an adult.

Ideas for Boys' Activities

Okay, I admit it. As a mother of two girls, I am absolutely horrible at coming up with some good ideas for boys.
That’s where all of you parents of boys can help me out! What books do your sons like to read? What are some topics that interest them? Would you be willing to help me with an afterschool book club just for boys?
I know that this is an area where I need improvement – you can help. If you have any ideas for me, please leave your comments. I look forward to hearing from you!

Despereaux: Book or Movie?

We've been reading The Tale of Despereaux and many of you have seen the movie . . . . tell me what you think!
As for me, I have to admit that though I found the movie cute and endearing, I like the book better. Here's my thoughts:
- Roscuro was born in the dungeon - so why does the movie have him coming from a distant land on a ship with the pirate guy?
- Despereaux's mother - I missed the French accent that the book says she has!
- Gregory the jailer is not Miggery Sow's father . . . . have you guys caught that yet?
- The magical vegetable guy . . . . I don't even know what to say. Where did he come from?
However, I did think Despereaux was adorable and my favorite part? Miggery Sow. Her character in the movie was pretty much how I imagined her when I read the book.
So go ahead - tell me your opinion. I'd love to hear . . . . .
